NZWPW: Rufguts takes down Disturbed

With both D-Hoya and X-Rated unable to compete against the champ, Disturbed answered Rufguts’ open challenge in the main event of the evening. Both champion and challenger started the match cautiously with some amateur-style chain wrestling, until Rufguts flung Disturbed from the ring and launched himself through the ropes with a terrifying suicide dive! Back in the ring, Rufguts crushed Disturbed with a senton over the top rope before standing on the challenger’s back and delivering a legdrop to the back of Disturbed’s head. Rufguts rolled Disturbed over and locked him in the Clap Trap, but the NZWPW veteran wriggled free and charged into Rufguts with a running knee to the head for the first two count of the match. As soon as Rufguts kicked out though, the challenger found himself on the wrong end of a Ruf-Driver. The champion decided not to go for a pin but instead to impress his hometown crowd with a moonsault from the top rope! Disturbed had time to roll out of the way though and headed to the top rope himself. As Rufguts slumped through the ropes trying to get back to his feet, Disturbed leapt into the air and smashed into the champ’s chest with a double-stomp! Disturbed took to the top rope once more as Rufguts hauled himself back to his feet, but was caught in the Clap Trap as he leapt towards the champ. Stuck in the middle of the ring, too far from the ropes, Disturbed had no choice but to tap out and give Rufguts the first fall of the match. Trying to wrap things up, Rufguts pulled Disturbed back to his feet and spiked him into the mat with a Brainbuster! Rufguts then tried to submit Disturbed in a camel clutch, but the challenger slipped under Rufguts and drove him into the mat with a German suplex! Disturbed then followed up with a butterfly suplex and a near fall. Rufguts kicked out and backed Disturbed into the corner. There, the champ tore Disturbed’s shirt off and hammered him with sumo strikes. Rufguts called for a 450 splash, much to the surprise of the crowd, but was cut off on the top rope by Disturbed, who brought him crashing to the mat with a top-rope superplex! Both men took a moment to recover as the referee began his ten count. Rufguts was the first man back to his feet though and he didn’t hesitate to hit the Ruf-Driver on Disturbed! The challenger had his shoulder off the mat at two though, and Rufguts hit another Ruf-Driver for the same result. With Disturbed refusing to go down to the Ruf-Driver, Rufguts stepped things up a bit and positioned Disturbed on the middle rope. A super Ruf-Driver smashed the challenger into the ring and gave Rufguts the second straight fall, retaining the NZWPW Championship. Johnny Idol, who Rufguts had saved from a Chad Howard beating earlier in the evening, came to the ring to celebrate with the NZWPW Champion. Rufguts had had enough of pandering to the crowd though and nailed Idol with another Ruf-Driver! Rufguts was then joined in the ring by Project Mayhem, Ben Mana & Corey Dallas, who raised the champ’s hand in victory to end the night. Project Mayhem had come up short earlier in the night when they tried to take the NZWPW Tag Team Championships from The Five Star Revolution, JC Star & Travis Banks. The match swung back and forward, with either team looking like they were capable of taking the victory. However, it was Ben Mana who would turn the tide, pulling down the top rope and making JC Star spill to the floor outside. Dallas and Mana quickly left the ring to take some liberties with Star on the outside, but hadn’t factored in Travis Banks, who climbed to the top rope and dove out of the ring with a high cross-body press that took out all three men. Travis then rolled “The Ideal Experience” back into the ring and picked him on up his shoulders ready for the Doomsday Device. JC Star dove from the top rope and brought Dallas crashing to the mat, before blasting Ben Mana with a Starstruck Superkick to stop him breaking up Travis’ cover. NZWPW Heretaunga Takedown Results:
