BRINGING DOWN THE HOUSE - FEBRUARY 2010 - RESULTS

NZWPW: Rufguts cheats to win

Written by David Dunn

Rufguts is still the NZWPW Champion after a tainted victory over D-Hoya at Friday’s Bringing Down the House. It took a Ben Mana, Corey Dallas and a low blow, but at the end of the night the “Human Weapon” left the He Toa Gym with the NZWPW Championship.

D-Hoya and Rufguts went toe-to-toe at the start of the match with wrist, hammer and shoulder locks being traded. Rufguts got the advantage when he used D-Hoya’s hair for extra leverage on a leg lock, and the match spilled out of the ring.

Both men took it to the other battling around the ring until Rufguts smashed D-Hoya’s head into the ring apron with a dangerous DDT! Back in the ring, D-Hoya countered a body-scissors attempt from Rufguts but was driven into the mat with a Michinoku driver, and then locked in the Clap Trap anyway. D-Hoya resourcefully rolled over while in the hold though and put some of the pressure back on Rufguts, forcing him to release the submission.

D-Hoya tried to lift Rufguts for the Eclipse, but couldn’t get the champ into the air. Adjusting his game plan, Hoya went for a scissor lock of his own on the champ, but had Ben Mana and Corey Dallas rush to the ringside area.

Both the referee and D-Hoya turned their attention to the threat outside the ring, giving Rufguts the perfect opportunity for an illegal low blow! The champion then rolled up his challenger for a cheap, tainted victory.

Dallas and Mana joined Rufguts in the ring, and the three men set about attacking D-Hoya, despite the match being over. Thankfully NZWPW’s Tag Team Champions, the Five Star Revolution of JC Star and Travis Banks rushed to the ring to chase D-Hoya’s attackers away, saving him from injury.

NZWPW Bringing Down the House Results:

  • The Party Seekers (Kid Caprice & Mikey Rave) w/ Carmella Caprice def. Chad Howard & The Nerd
After being isolated for much of the match, Kid Caprice made the tag to his partner, Mikey Rave, only to have Rave taken out within seconds by Chad Howard. Howard took a moment to taunt the Party Seekers’ manager, Carmella Caprice, though and got a slap in the face for his trouble! Kid Caprice, now the legal man, quickly rolled up the stunned Chad Howard for the win.

  • JC Star def. “Dream Catcher” Phil Woodgate
Woodgate called out JC Star, half expecting the NZWPW Tag Team Champion to be unable to compete due to an ankle injury from Movember. Star answered the challenge though, and tried to take out “Dream Catcher” with a Starstruck Superkick late into the match. Woodgate ducked the shot though and set Star up for the Razorblade Romance, only to have the move countered to Star’s Sex Drive to bring an end to the match.

  • “The Ideal Experience” Corey Dallas def. Travis Banks
Travis Banks was not as fortunate as his tag team partner (JC Star), and fell victim to a Sack from Corey Dallas after an intense match filled with suplexes. Dallas followed up the Sack with the Ideal Experience to take the win.

  • Tykade def. Ben Mana
Corey Dallas, fresh off a win, showed his face for a second time at Bringing Down the House during Mana and Tykade’s grudge match. Dallas tried to nail Tykade with the Sack, but the massive man stepped out of the way and diverted CD’s attack into Ben Mana before pinning his former tag team partner.

  • Misty & Stellar Hammer def. Carmella Caprice & Chi-Tah
Stellar Hammer nailed Carmella with her finisher, the Divine Hammer, but Misty shoved Stellar out of the ring and covered Carmella herself, stealing credit for her dysfunctional team’s win.

  • Dan “The Man” Stirling def. GI Jade and Johnny Idol
After withstanding a lot of double-team offence from GI Jade and Johnny Idol, Stirling picked his spot and caught both men with a double DDT. From there Dan knocked GI Jade down with a leg lariat and finished off Idol with the Dan Driver.

  • NZWPW Championship:
    Rufguts (c) def. D-Hoya

Ben Mana and Corey Dallas rushed to ringside, distracting D-Hoya and the referee long enough for Rufguts to cripple D-Hoya with a low-blow and roll him up to retain the NZWPW Championship. Rufguts and his friends set about beating down D-Hoya after the match had ended until NZWPW Tag Team Champions the Five Star Revolution tore to the ring and chased D-Hoya’s assailants away.
